Its a new year and so its time for new movies. I attended an advanced screening of Man on a Ledge almost a month ago. The movies stars Sam Worthington as Nick Cassidy a cop convicted for stealing a huge diamond from real estate mogul David Englander (Ed Harris). It also stars Elizabeth Banks as Lydia Mercer the Negotiator who is struggling with her demons as her last job she tried to talk a cop from jumping off a bridge and he jumped to his death. She's not the cop on rotation, Nick asks for her by name.
The movie is fairly predictable, Lydia is trying to shake her demons and the boys club of the police unit she works in, Nick is accused of a crime he didn't commit, there are dirty cops, good cops and as seen in the previews Joey and Angie are working their way thru a building pass lots of security alarms in an attempt to prove Nick was framed.
The movie was not as good as i expected, there was nothing spectacular about it, its pretty formulaic, with a same twist that i didn't see that was a cute payoff. The scenes between Joey and Angie could have been funnier. The ability was there to have a comedic undertone to their relationship and it was lightly touched. Also Edward Burns i'm not sure why he's even in this movie. It had a lot of potential that was wasted. That means if you go see it catch the matinee.
Man on a Ledge opens today.
SPOILER ALERT:
(stop reading if you don't want to know how it ends, this is your only warning)
As i said its fairly predictable, Of course Nick didn't do it, the heist to steal back the diamond of course has its hiccups. After its all said and done Nick does indeed jump, (not from the ledge but from the rooftop after a chase and firefight). The diamond is recovered, all the good people live and all the dirty people either die or go its assumed go to jail.
For more details of how it went down go to Movie Pooper for the details, I'm sure there will be a pooper there if not now within a few days.
